Healthcare: Renovation of a sustainable medical centre

In 2018, TDEF made a donation to the Sustainable Medical Centre project run by the Kadam Chöling association in collaboration with NGO Wilde Ganzen. Due to the high risk of landslides, it was not feasible to build a new sustainable medical centre in the short term. A temporary medical centre was then set up in the school building with a separate entrance on the street side. Twice a week, there are free consultation hours that are accessible to monks and local residents. If necessary, patients are referred to the hospital in Kullu.

Thanks to additional support, various health problems have been addressed in recent years. Some examples are stomach complaints caused by bacterial (Helicobacter) infections, a project to prevent tuberculosis and common skin problems among young monks. Investments have been made in better nutrition, hygiene and medical facilities, such as an industrial washing machine. In the future, expanding healthcare remains an important goal, including dentistry and the creation of personal health records. A new medical post will be part of the new school building, for which preparatory steps are currently being taken. (See also the website of the WHISE Foundation.)
